CLINTWOOD — Race Moir kept Richlands on track to the regional championship game.

The Blue Tornado quarterback threw for 146 yards and a touchdown and ran for another 143 yards, including a 27-yard score, and Richlands knocked off top-seeded Ridgeview 31-21 on Saturday in the Region 2D semifinals.

Moir’s heroics helped offset a phenomenal game by Wolfpack sophomore sensation Trenton Adkins. Adkins raced off to 210 yards on the ground, scoring on runs of 70 and 51 yards.

Adkins’ 70-yarder came in the first quarter and Matthew Sexton hauled in a 62-yard touchdown catch from Tyler O’Quin in the second period for Ridgeview, which trailed 17-14 at halftime thanks to Trey Brown’s 1-yard TD run, Moir’s 27-yard score and Levi Forrest’s 21-yard field goal.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Moir hit Taylor Horn for a 50-yard touchdown. Adkins’ 51-yard TD pulled the Wolfpack (10-2) back within three points at 24-21, but with a little more than two minutes remaining, freshman Sage Webb came through with the clincher — a 54-yard touchdown run — for Richlands (8-4).

The Blue Tornado, who piled up 482 yards of total offense, advanced to meet Southwest District rival Graham next week in the regional final. The G-Men beat Union 28-7 in the other 2D semifinal at Bullitt Park.
